The system is called SureSmile and Dr. Feldman is one of a small group of orthodontists in Arizona offering this technology to his patients. SureSmile is a system of using 3D models of your teeth to create an accurate and sophisticated diagnosis and treatment plan. After Dr. Feldman goes through a 30 point process of analyzing your 3D models, digital photos and X-rays, he instructs the computer to create a custom wire that is precisely bent by a robot and delivered to the office just for you.
Traditionally, an orthodontic specialist uses years of experience and knowledge to ‘hand bend’ a wire for your teeth. This process has worked very well for Dr. Feldman as well as orthodontists around the world since orthodontics began over a century ago. But, the advent of intraoral scanners and sophisticated computer technology allows orthodontics to see the teeth in a way they have never been able to see them before. An orthodontist using SureSmile can view simulations of a patient’s tooth movements. They can run multiple scenarios such as arch expansion and tooth extraction before deciding on the ideal changes for each patient. Dr. Feldman creates a perfect ‘virtual smile’ by moving virtual teeth to the ideal bite and smile. Then, the software creates a perfect wire with precision bends to get the teeth to the exact position specified by Dr. Feldman on the computer.
